Our approach is in line with Argyll and Bute’s ‘Recognising Achievement, Profiling and Reporting Policy’ which states:
at the centre of reporting are the informed discussions between teachers, parents, children and young people regarding their learning
schools employ a wide range of activities and methods to report on progress, including short interim reports, focusing on Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing.
Among the range of other activities and methods that are used to report to parents/carers in schools in Argyll and Bute is the sharing of information about achievements and targets through the use of Personal Learning Plans (PLPs). We would like to stress the importance of Personal Learning Plans in our reporting process. Click here to read more the purpose of Personal Learning Planning and what it involves at Castlehill.
A key part of the process is the individual planning/work folder that is maintained for each child. As children move through the school the formats they use change as they make progress in their independence and understanding of the learning process.
Learning Journeys are a form of Personal Learning Plan and they have been in use and shared with parents/carers for a number of years in Early Level classes at Castlehill. Last year we worked on developing Personal Learning Plans formats that could be used effectively throughout the school. Each child in the school now has a Personal Learning Plan folder appropriate to their age. Teachers have developed and named the folder in use in each area of the school. Again, we strongly recommend that you discuss your child’s folder with them and make encouraging comments to value and support your child’s learning.
In the P1 to P3 classes you will have received or will be receiving your child’s Learning Journey before the first Open Hour next week. Please spend time looking through and discussing it with your child, and return it to your child’s teacher so that it can continued to be used in class.
In the P4 to P7 classes the P4 to P5 Personal Planning and Achievement Folders and the P6 to P7 Achievement Folders will be available for you to look through and make comments in at the Parent/Carer Open Hours and Appointments.
