Spring Concert

Thank you to everyone who came to see our ‘Night at the Movies’ Spring Concert which the children really enjoyed performing. £1429 was raised through ticket sales for school funds and £976 through the raffle, part of which is being used to contribute to the P7 Edinburgh residential trip this year.

As you will be aware from previous school newsletters and flyers, parking is difficult and dangerous in the area around any school as it poses a risk to children’s safety. To minimise the risk we continue to recommend that you do not park in the immediate vicinity of the school.  The recommended dropping off area is Stewart Green. Please be aware that you should avoid the Community Centre Car Park, the busy part of Stewart Road by the painted yellow box area, the bus bay and the corner of Smith Drive where there is a dropped kerb.  The visibility of children in these areas at busy times is significantly reduced.

Playground Project

Thank you also to everyone who placed their shopping tokens in the Castlehill box at Tesco during the voting period in March.  We were successful in being awarded the grant of £12,000, for which we are very grateful.  Mr Long is currently involved in liaising with Tesco regarding the next steps in receiving the grant.  More information will follow soon about our plans for the project which will run until the end of March 2017.

Sports Day

You will have received a separate letter from us regarding this year’s Sports Day.  We hope you will be able to join us to support your child.  Sports Day will be taking place on the Meadows on Wednesday 11th May from 1.00 pm.  It had been provisionally set for 18th May. We have moved it to the 11th to avoid it clashing with the P7 transition week at the Grammar School.  We apologise if the change has caused any inconvenience.

Near the end of the Spring Term, a team of four P6 pupils took part in the Argyll and Bute Round of Euroquiz, an annual quiz for schools organised by the Scottish European Education Trust.  The team showed some very good general knowledge about Europe and excellent teamwork in answering a range of questions about geography and culture. They also used their knowledge of French in the language round. They did very well to finish in 3rd place among the schools that entered the Argyll and Bute Round.
