The school was a very busy place for all of the musicians and performers who took part in the Kintyre Music Festival recently. Well done to all of the performers, including our P1 to P3 classes for their Action Songs. A number of pupils and groups, including our School Choir, went on to perform at the final evening performance on the Saturday.
We plan to be very busy in the Autumn and Spring Terms of the 16/17 session on our plans for improving the school playgrounds with the help of the £12,000 funding we will be receiving from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme. To launch our Playground Project we are planning to hold a Workshop Day at school on Saturday 27th August for parents and pupils. One of the workshops will be on making mosaics. To brighten up some areas of the school’s fences and railings we hope to create mosaics, based on pupils’ designs. More details of the day will be given at the start of the term.
Two Castlehill teams competed in the Millenium Cup at the All Weather Pitch last Thursday evening, 16th June. Teams from South Kintyre and Ardrishaig took part and, thankfully, the rain stayed away for the evening! In the A Team competition Castlehill A reached the final in which Ardrishaig came out the winners of the Millenium Cup. In the B Team competition, Castlehill B did very well to win the group. Well done to all those who took part and thanks to the football coaches and referees who gave up their time to arrange the event.
The wearing of school uniform has been very good throughout this year. For the last few days of this term and for the start of next year, we would stress that children should be wearing sensible, sturdy, laced or strapped shoes only at school and not open-toed sandals or flip-flops which can easily cause children to trip or fall in the playground. Children should also not wear make-up in school.
Queen’s Birthday Card
In the Spring Term of this year, Mrs Galbraith and Mrs Reid arranged for children in P1/2 and P1 to enter a competition to design a birthday card for the Queen’s 90th birthday. The competition was organised by the MacQueen Bros Charitable Trust based in Oban. We were very pleased to hear recently from the Trust the news that Eoin in P1/2 was the winner in the P1 to P3 category for his design. Well done, Eoin. The prize for winning was a £250 gift to the school. We will use the money to purchase some interesting resources for the Infant classes.
Go Green Day
Go Green Day takes place this Thursday, 23rd June. Children will be able to buy plants grown by P4 and P5. There will also be a raffle of a hamper, a treasure hunt and a baking stall. We will be very grateful for any donations to the baking stall. Thursday will also be a non-uniform day. A donation of 50p is requested for pupils not wearing uniform. Pupils are encouraged to wear something green.
